Audie W. Hammond, formerly of Wylam, Alabama, and a resident of Gardendale, Alabama, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2024, at the age of 84. Audie was a devoted husband, father, and Paw Paw who cherished spending time with his family, cheering on Alabama football, and enjoying poker nights at the American Legion Post 255.
Audie proudly served as a firefighter for the Vestavia Hills Fire Department for 34 years, retiring with honor as Battalion Chief. His dedication and bravery left an indelible mark on his colleagues and the community he served.
Audie was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Delia “Dee Dee” Hammond; his daughter, Patricia Hammond; his parents, George and Lillie Hammond; his brothers, George and Tommy Hammond; sisters, Mary Bonano, Doris Murphy, and Sarah Oden.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Lynn Hammond; grandsons, Roger (Leslie) and Ryan Watrous; great-grandchildren, Brody, Maddy, and Tyler Watrous, and Brayden Houston; two very special people, Wanda and Carol Salmon; and his sister, Florine Noel.
Audie will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his dedication to his career, and his zest for life. He leaves behind a legacy of courage, love, and cherished memories.
A memorial service will be held to honor Audie’s life and contributions.
Rest in peace, Paw Paw. Your spirit and love will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved you. Roll Tide!
