passed away on October 26, 2024 in Orange, CA at the age of 93.
Peggy grew up in Erie and after graduating from Strong Vincent High School, she worked for a short time in women’s fashion before becoming a society reporter and writer for the Erie Times Newspaper.
In 1954, Peggy married Reitzel Poole and the couple moved to his hometown of High Point, NC, where their son, David Poole, was born in 1956.
In the 1960’s, they relocated to Santa Ana, CA. During her working career in CA, Peggy was primarily employed by the Garden Grove Unified School District as a secretary in the elementary schools for over 30 years.
Peggy was a long-time member of St. Columban’s Catholic Church in Garden Grove, where she volunteered in the parish office, served as a Eucharistic Minister and lector.
She enjoyed all social activities especially theater, movies, events at Bowers Museum and spending time with her friends.
She will no doubt be remembered for her kindness, willingness to help others whenever needed, and her ability to make friends with all whom she met, including any needy animal who showed up on her doorstep.
Peggy is survived by her nieces Pat Burgoyne and Lynne Lindberg of Orange, CA and several cousins in North Carolina. She was preceded in death by both her husband, Reitzel, and her sister, Francis Medbery Burgoyne, in 1995. Her son, David Poole, passed away in 2006 and her nephew, Jerry Predaris, died in 2015.
Friends may call at Dimond and Shannon Mortuary on Wednesday November 13th from 3:30pm to 6 pm. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Columban’s Catholic Church on Thursday November 14th at 9:30 am. Internment will follow at Riverside National Cemetery.
