James "Eddie" Edward Allen Jr.

As World War II seemed to be coming to an end a very pregnant Mrs. Jenny Evelyn Allen boarded a train. She would never make it to her destination as she had gone into labor and was forced to exit the train at the next available stop, which was in Abbeville, South Carolina. She later gave birth to her son James Edward Allen Jr. on May 27th, 1944. What a way to begin his life which he, in turn, lived so boldly in love and spontaneity until going to his eternal home on May 1st, 2012.

The late James Edward Allen Jr. was better known to most as Eddie the loving son, brother, cousin, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Eddie served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. He became a truck driver and drove trucks both locally and across the country for most of his life. Eddie enjoyed many hobbies. He loved to sail and even owned a sail boat. He owned two Porsche cars that he enjoyed driving around town on his days off. He also had a great love for music of all kinds and he even played drums in a band in high school. Some would say he was taken too soon but most would say he lived a very full life and experienced many things. He loved his family with all he had and he was loved greatly in return. It was often said that Eddie never knew a stranger. He was a kind, gentle hearted man that would talk to anyone about anything. He could always make you laugh; lightening the darkest of situations with his bright smiling eyes.

Eddie will be missed by many but most of all his family. He leaves behind his wife, Barbara Allen, his brother, Daniel Allen, his sister, Linda Easton, his two sons, Daniel and David Allen, four step children, eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers Eddie’s wishes were for donations to be given to the American Cancer Society to further cancer research in support of his granddaughter’s current battle with cancer. Our family thanks you for your generosity.
