Born on December 16, 1943, to the late John Thomas Pennix and Helen Green Pennix in Alpoca, she grew up in West Virginia where she accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Gloria had strong religious beliefs and opinions, read the Bible diligently and was adept at quoting scripture. She was a prayer warrior.
Gloria graduated from Conley High School in Mullens, West Virginia, attended Concord College in Bluefield West Virginia and received a BS Degree in Chemistry from Long Island University in NY.
She worked for IBM in Poughkeepsie, NY and Brooklyn, NY before transferring to California, retiring November 30, 1996 after 30 years of service.
After settling in California, she became a member of Second Baptist Church in Santa Ana for several years. From 2005-2009 she was a member of Greater Grace where she served as Secretary to Pastor Charles Wilkins.
On January 18, 2009 Gloria married the love of her life, Fred Moore who survives her.
Gloria was loving, thoughtful, generous and devoted to family and friends. She was our go-to, take charge wife, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She was the family glue that held us together, even though she lived in California, she was in New York, South Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia for all family milestones.
We will cherish all that she was and embrace her legacy of love and strong family commitments, her memories are everlasting.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Shirley Reece and Patricia Levant, nephew John Levant and niece Camille Lewis.
Survivors left to cherish her memories include her husband; a brother Sterling Larry Pennix, West Virginia; sisters, Darlene Thompson, West Virginia and JoAnn Lewis, NY; brother-in-law Solomon Moore (Valerie); step-son, Michael Moore (Nicole); and granddaughters Noel Moore, Maia Moore, all of CA. Nephews: James Reece, Harold Levant, Stephen Lewis, Gregory Henson all of NY; Andre Pennix of FL and Salim and Amir Moore of CA. Nieces: Robin Carter Jones, Terri Johnson and Lolita Lewis of NY, Wanda Richardson(Sam) of NJ and Asha Moore of CA.
Eight Great Nephews; one special great nephew, James Willie Johnson, of NY; one special young lady, Delilah Spencer (Deshawn) children, Demi and Dean all of CA. whom she loved as family; Nine Great Nieces and a host of family and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 23, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Garden Grove Church of God, 8362 Trask Avenue, Garden Grove CA 92844. Doors open at 10:00 AM. Pastor Rosie Wilkins of Greater Grace Church will preside.
