Peter Taglia, 78, of New Albany, OH, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Mary and Anthony Taglia. He is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Donna; his cherished sister, Teresa; his three daughters, Kimberly, Vanessa, and Andrea; sons-in-law Dan Geers and Sam (Matt) Luckino who all brought him immense pride and joy. Peter’s legacy also lives on through his adored grandsons, Asher, Leo, and Sebastian, whose soccer games he never missed and whose laughter brightened his days.
Raised in Brooklyn, NY, Peter was a proud alumnus of St. Francis Preparatory High School’s historic Brooklyn campus where he played football. His academic journey continued at Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute—now the New York University Tandon School of Engineering—where he was president of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and majored in physics for his bachelor’s degree. This foundation launched a remarkable career at IBM, where Peter played a pivotal role in developing semiconductor technologies that power modern-day credit cards and transit passes. Motivated by his passion for skiing in the Rocky Mountains, Peter then served his country while working for IBM by transferring to Denver, Colorado. There, he served as an Air Force Reservist specializing in radar and satellite engineering.
Fueled by an endless drive for knowledge, Peter returned to New York and earned master’s degrees in Systems Analysis and Information Systems from New York University. His expertise and innovative vision led to a distinguished career in technology and communications, culminating in his role as Vice President of Product Development at Oracle. A trailblazer in his field, Peter contributed significantly to advancements in database software and information systems.
A lifelong Yankees fan, Peter’s passion for baseball was unwavering, and he rarely missed a game. Although disappointed by the Yankees’ recent 2024 World Series loss, his love for the team remained steadfast. Beyond his professional accomplishments and sports fandom, Peter’s greatest joy was spending time with his family. Whether enjoying Donna’s home-cooked meals or playing with his grandsons, he cherished every moment of connection and laughter.
Peter’s warmth, intellect, and dedication to family will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of love, learning, and innovation will endure in the hearts of his family and the countless lives he touched.
