Gene Richard Thompson

Reverend Gene Richard Thompson, 85, of Boiling Springs, SC, died Saturday, February 4, 2023 at his home. Born January 24, 1938 in Columbus, Ohio, he was the son of the late Woodrow Wilson and Gladys Lorraine Wheeler Thompson, and the husband of the late Shelby Jean Hamrick Thompson.

A U.S. Army veteran, Rev. Thompson earned his bachelor’s degree from Circleville Bible College and his master’s degree from Ashland Theological Seminary. He attended Carlisle Wesleyan Church.

During 1976 to 2007, he served as Pastor at the following churches: Oakland Park Chapel in Columbus, Ohio; Endwell Church of Christ in Christian Union, Endwell, New York; Delaware Church of Christ in Christian Union, Dover, Delaware; Johnstown Church of the Nazarene in Johnstown, Ohio; Lisbon Church of the Nazarene in Lisbon, Ohio; Willow Lake Church of the Nazarene in Eastlake, Ohio; and Bellefontaine Church of Christ in Christian Union in Bellefontaine, Ohio.

Survivors include his daughters, Susan Thompson and Barbara Lundy; his son, David Thompson (Stephanie); daughter-in-law, Josetta Thompson; grandchildren, Laura Thompson, Zachary Lundy, Taylor Thompson (Emily), Ginelle Ford (Malcolm), Kayla Stivers, Braedan Thompson, Lincoln Thompson and Landon Thompson; three great grandchildren, Winston Stivers, Finnegan Stivers, and Mercy Rose Thompson; and his brother, Steven Thompson. He was predeceased by a son, Michael Thompson and sister, Janice Reams.

Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Sunday, February 12, 2023 at Northgate Church, 51 Fourwinds Ct, Sunbury, OH, 43074. Funeral service will be on Monday, February 13 at 11am with an hour visitation prior. Burial to follow at Kingwood Memorial Park, 8230 Columbus Pike, Lewis Center, Ohio 43035.
