Elsie Williams-Wilson departed this life on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at home surrounded by her loving family. Elsie was born June 4, 1935 to the union of Maceo L. and Willie V (Jackson) Williams in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. Elsie graduated from Chisholm High School. She received her undergraduate degree in nursing from Tuskegee Institute (University). Elsie earned her Masters of Science Degree in nursing from the School (College) of Nursing at the Ohio State University. As a historical note, Elsie was the first African-American to receive this degree. She was an Associate Professor of Nursing and upon her retirement was honored with the “Emeritus” title. Elsie was a lifelong member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and served on the Board of several professional and social organizations and received many awards and accolades for her community service.
Elsie is survived by her husband of forty-seven years, Kenneth Wilson, Nephew, Deric (Fredena) Williams, Gahanna, OH Nieces, Betty Lang, Jacksonville, FL, Jene’ Williams, Riviera Beach, FL, M. Evette (Phillip) Cooper, Riviera Beach, FL, and Evelyn Wong, Los Angeles, CA, Sisters-In-Law, Mary Wilson and Glaydell Cumberlander, Columbus, OH and Ellen Wilson, Arlington, VA, brother-in-law, Eric Wilson, Troy OH, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, M.L. and Willie V. Williams, sisters, Ruth Wong, Grace Williams and brother M. L. Williams, Jr.
A memorial service will be held on November 30th, at 11:00am at Schoedinger Margarum Funeral Home 1051 E Johnstown Road, Gahanna, Ohio, 43230.
