Elbert graduated from Allensville High School before he entered the United States Army and served in the Korean War. After returning home, he and Evalee moved to Columbus, Ohio. Elbert graduated from Bliss college and took employment with the Internal Revenue Service. After a long career with the IRS, Elbert retired and started his tax consulting business from home. Again, he became very successful while in retirement.
He became involved in Gahanna’s Little League program, coaching baseball, basketball, and football. Coach Maxwell (Al was his nickname), became the president of both the baseball and basketball programs. He was everyone’s favorite coach, mentoring many boys during these days and helping them turn into great young men.
His real passion was family, always wanting to take care of everyone around him. He was a Secret Santa to nieces and nephews, always answering the call to help. He loved Sunday dinners with all family members after church and babysitting every grandchild during the weekdays while his children worked. In retirement, he and Evalee attended all sporting and school events of every grandchild. Together, Elbert and Evalee loved Scioto Downs, traveling the country, and going on cruises. Elbert also loved to talk sports and politics, his favorite teams being The Ohio State football and basketball teams and the Cincinnati Bengals and Reds.
