David A. Prosak, age 72, of Westerville, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family on November 18, 2024. He was born September 28, 1952 in Lorain, Ohio to Aloysius and Dorothy (nee Suchocki) Prosak. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Joan Napier, who he so generously cared for during her final days.
A devoted husband, father, uncle, and protective “PopPop”, Dave was a fun-loving, playful, “master of games” for his competitive family, and a truly thoughtful & kindhearted man. He graduated from Lorain Catholic High School in 1970, and went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Business from Bowling Green University in 1974. He retired in Columbus after working for the U.S. Post Office for 25 years.
A lifelong supporter of the Cleveland Browns, Dave was an avid fan of games and sports. He enjoyed playing chess, cards, tennis, and especially disc golf (and maybe more so, hunting for lost discs). Some would also call him a “coupon king”, for the highly impressive strategy he developed for “hitting the jackpot” at the local stores. He gifted the abundance of his “winnings” to his family, as prizes for his games, for over 15 years. (They will all have to buy their own toothpaste from now on.)
Dave enjoyed daily walks through the Blendon Woods disc course, trying his hand at craps every now and then, and surrounding himself with music as he methodically researched stock options. More than anything, he enjoyed his family, and gathering everyone ‘round the table for his famous trivia games. Above all, Dave was a steady and kind carer of people and those he loved.
Dave is survived by his loving wife, Jan Prosak; his children, AJ (Sarah) Prosak, Samantha (Matt) Dorsey, Douglas Prosak, their mother, Sandra Eiden Prosak, and his daughter-in-law, Allison Prosak; his step-children, Gabe (Andrea) Barbaglia, Kate Barbaglia, Beth Barbaglia, and Mark (Keri) Barbaglia; his grandchildren, Victoria (Andrew) DeWeese, Etta, Amelia, Mario, Coralynn, Cecily, Grace, Landon, Evelina, and Archer. He is also survived by his brothers, Vic (Linda) Prosak and Alex (Denise) Prosak; his nephew, Zach (Sarah) Prosak, his niece, Vicki (Josh) Owen, and their children, Aiden, Mia, Jacob, and Izzy. (…about a gazillion cousins, and a handful of grand-dogs, too.)
He will be deeply missed and very warmly remembered by all who love him.
Family and friends may gather at Schoedinger Northeast Funeral Home (1051 E. Johnstown Rd.) on Friday, November 22, from 10-11AM. Funeral service will begin at 11AM. Following the service will be an Interment at Blendon Central Cemetery. After the interment a reception will take place back at the funeral home from 12:30PM-2PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation in Dave’s name to Friends of Metro Parks Blendon Woodstock: Disc Golf Festival. The direct link for memorial contributions is listed below.
