Charles James Higginbotham, 88, went to rest Sunday, January 15, 2023 surrounded by loved ones and awoke warmly nestled in the arms of his Lord and Savior and his loving wife. He was born April 11, 1934 in Derrick Creek, WV to Clarence O. Higginbotham and Tressie F. Higginbotham. Charles married Jessie “Louise” Larrison on February 26, 1954. He enlisted and attained the rank of Senior Master Chief Petty Officer of the United States Navy, proudly serving his country from 1952-1974. Following his service, he went on to work as a hydraulic and electronic expert for Denison Hydraulics Inc. from 1978-1996.
For many years, Charles was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church, Gahanna, OH and most recently attended Madison Christian Church in Groveport, OH. He proudly served on the Honor Guard for the VFW Post 4719 in Gahanna, OH and was most recently a member of VFW Post 10523 in Canal Winchester, OH.
Lovingly, Charles and Louise were married for 63 years and left to this world, their daughters: Janet Louise (Ronald) Sisko of Groveport, Ohio and Charlene “Sue” (Tom) Roberts of Johnstown, Ohio. Their grandchildren: Tressie (Scott) Spurling, Stephen (Christine) Sisko, Corey (Andrew) Hallam, Shelby (Nathan) Johnson and Brian Roberts. And their great grandchildren: Kylee Ooten, Maddox Johnson, Jessie Spurling, Austin Wolfe, Delaney Johnson, Jenna Spurling, Brandon Spurling, Lirael Johnson, Blaine Sisko, Margaret Hallam, Elliana Johnson and Charles Hallam.
Charles also leaves behind siblings and family: Ronald Higginbotham, Betty (John) McKibbon, Gayle Jackman, Curt (Juanita) Larrison, Lester (Pat) Larrison, Bill (Leslie) Larrison, Irene (Bob) Mapes and Nancy (Don) Bailey. And many cousins, nephews, nieces and friends.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife, parents, siblings and family – Celeste Higginbotham, Maxine Jones (Cinnett), Barbara Bourner (Ed), Dayle MacNealy (Ken), Sheila Robinette (Delmon), Clarence “Jr.” Higginbotham (Fern), Herald Higginbotham (Lexi), Donald Higginbotham (Margaret), Russell Higginbotham and Cathy Moore.
Family will receive friends on Thursday, January 19, 2023 from 4pm-7pm at Schoedinger Northeast, 1051 East Johnstown Road, Gahanna, OH 43230. A funeral service will be held at 10am on Friday January 20, 2023 at Schoedinger Northeast, officiated by Paul Barnes, Minister of Madison Christian Church. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery Mausoleum, 5600 E. Broad Street, Columbus, OH.
