Funeral Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Collier-Butler Funeral Chapel for Mr. Tommy Colvin, 74, of Rainbow City who passed away Friday, September 1, 2023. Visitation will precede the service from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Rev. Curtis Scott will officiate. Jonathan Horton will share a reading in honor of Tommy. He will be laid to rest at Conn Cemetery, Gallant, with military honors.
Tommy was a 1967 graduate of Etowah High School, spend two years at Gadsden State Community College and a 2010 graduate of Ashford University, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree. He had been employed with Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company with 35 years of service. Tommy retired from the U.S. Army after serving 31 years. He was promoted to Command Sergeant Major Academy in 2000, awarded the Bronze Star in January 2004 and had earned 16 decorations from the U.S. Army. Tommy was named after General Douglas MacArthur.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, who never met a stranger, and was kind to anyone he met. Tommy was a member of White Springs Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Edward Colvin; mother, Laverne Lancaster Colvin; Grandparents, John Andy Colvin and Emma Colvin and Bessie and Tom Lancaster.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Pat Colvin; son, Ashley Colvin; step-son, Chase (Lisa) Waldrop; grandchildren, Piper and Bennett Anderson; brothers, Gary (Kathy) Colvin and Keith (Nancy) Colvin; sisters-in-law, Deborah Hawkins, Tammy (John) Morris and Christy Mabry; several nieces and nephews; special pet, Emmie Colvin and special friend who was always there, Debbie Kilpatrick.
Pallbearers will be: Herbert Rothrock, Sammy Roberts, Randy Holcomb, Judson Hamilton, Chris Mason and Williams Fielding.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Gentiva Hospice, Pam, Brooklyn, Anna, Tammy and Nicole.
Flowers will be accepted.
