Robert “Bobby” Marvin Woods

Robert Marvin Woods, known as Bobby by his family and friends, of Rainbow City, Alabama passed away on October 10, 2023. Bobby was born on April 28, 1936 to Mazie Thornton Woods and James Marvin Woods in Gadsden, Alabama. Bobby was a respected and deeply loved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and mentor to many. He started out his years as a Golden Gloves boxer in Akron, Ohio, where he met Thelma, his wife, mother of his children and love of his life of 68 years. After his boxing career, Bobby joined the Army in order to serve his country. He eventually moved back to his beloved birth state of Alabama (Roll Tide) where he spent 40 years as an interstate truck driver (aka Little Woody). In his spare time, he took great pride in mentoring, training and inspiring up and coming young boxers. He was also known to take young people of every ilk under his wing and teach them all the life lessons he had amassed. In his free time, he also enjoyed boxing, fishing, riding motorcycles, and spending time with all of those he loved. Bobby was full of life and those who knew him loved him dearly…and will never forget him. Bobby was preceded in death by his siblings, James [Jim] Woods, Charles Woods and Joan Baker Woods. He is survived by wife, Thelma Green Woods; daughters, Carolyne Woods and Susie Wells Woods [Jared Wells]; grandchildren, Alexandra Woods Aaronson [Bobby Aaronson] and Chance Woods; and siblings, Gene Woods and Louise Woods Gandee. Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Gandee, Greg Wood, Tim Wood, David Fry and Daryl Fry. Special Acknowledgement to Gentiva Hospice and especially to Ashleigh Edwards. A memorial visitation for Robert will be held Saturday, October 14, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Collier-Butler Funeral Home, 824 Rainbow Drive, Gadsden, AL 35901, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM.
