Funeral services will be Friday, August 24th, 2018, at 2:00 p.m., at Collier-Butler Chapel for Robert “Bob” Vinson, 81, of Southside, who passed away Monday, August 20th, 2018. The Rev. Larry Fuhrman will officiate. Interment will be at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery. Arrangements under the direction of Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services.
Bob was in the very first graduating class of Auburn University where he received his Bachelor of Science in Business (War Eagle). In 1994, Bob retired from the Alabama Air National Guard as a Chief Master Sergeant after 34 years of service to our country. He held the position of Senior Logistics with the 226th Combat Communications Group. Throughout his life he enjoyed boating, water skiing, the beach, bowling, softball, corn hole and anything related to being with friends and laughter. He was a hero to many, a friend to all.
He is preceded in death by his parents, J.M. (Murphy) and Gladys Vinson
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ruth Vinson; Daughters, Dee (Frank) Moore and Lenesha Zaner (Stephen Whorton); Son, Michael Vinson; Granddaughter, Crystal Garrard; Brother, Wendell (Janet) Vinson; Nephews, Lee Vinson and Shayne Vinson; and many in his chosen family
Pallbearers will be Robert Stephens, Tim Humphrey, Tommy Hammock, David Mayben, David Weaver, Eddie Stone, Jim Hamby, and Dale Denson
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Jason Ayers and Dr. Robert Foster
Special thanks to all the doctors and nurses at St. Vincent’s East, especially Joyce and Frank in 6th floor CICU. Thank you for such excellent care.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 23rd from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
