Funeral Services will be Tuesday, at 2:00 pm, at Collier-Butler Chapel for Mr. Robert “Bob” Lowe Limbaugh, 89, of Gadsden, who passed away Sunday, October 12th, 2014. The Pastor Mike Hengle will officiate. Interment will be at Crestwood Memorial Cemetery.
Bob was born and raised in Ala. City and graduated from Emma Sansom High School. After graduation he enlisted in the Airborne Engineers and later transferred to the Aviation Engineers. He served in the Pacific on New Guinea, Biak, Manila in the Philippines Islands and Japan. He was in the invasion of Luzou, where he was wounded. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Soldiers Medal for Bravery.
Mr. Limbaugh was a faithful member of Parkway Community Church. He was employed by Republic Steel for 37 years and retired as a supervisor in the basic oxygen furnace. While growing up he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Bob was a Master Mason in Dwight Lodge #550, The Scottish Rite, a Shriner of Zamora Temple, and he belonged to the VFW post 8600. He also was a member of the American Legion, the D.A.V., and The Military Order of the Purple Heart. He was honored to be on the first Patriot Flight from Etowah County to fly to Washington to visit the World War II Memorial. He was also inducted in the Patriots Hall of Honor.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas J. Limbaugh; mother, Etta Limbaugh; sister, Betty Lawley; brother, Curtis (Marcilene) Limbaugh.
Bob is survived by his son, William “Chuck” (Jennifer) Limbaugh; daughter, Janet Clowdus; grandchildren, Zac (Allyson) Fuller, Adam (Maghan) Fuller, Billy (Karry) Beck, Annette Bell; great grandchildren, Keith (Devin) Partee, Haley Mullins, Jacob Bryant, Kimberly Bryant; and great great grandchild, Jordan Partee.
The family would like to express a special thanks to Dr. Akisanya along with his staff and to the V.A.
The family will accept friends Tuesday from 1-2 p.m., prior to the service.
