Funeral services will be Sunday, June 24, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Collier-Butler Chapel for Quentin R. Smith, 78, of Gadsden, who passed away Thursday, June 21, 2012. Rev. Sherry Reynolds will officiate with burial in Rainbow Memorial Gardens. Masonic Rites will be performed at the graveside. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is directing.
Mr. Smith was born in Gallipolis, Ohio and grew up in Lynchburg, Virginia. He was a member of the Lynchburg Miller Park Mighty Mites Pop Warner National Championship Football Team of 1948. He graduated from E.C. Glass High School of Lynchburg, Virginia and attended The Newport News Shipping and Dry Dock Company for 5 years to complete his apprenticeship. He was a member of the Alabama National Guard. He worked in Huntsville for Thycol on projects related to the Space Industry and worked in Birmingham for Rust Engineering for many years as well as at B.E. & K Hargrove Engineering. He was a member of the Attalla Mason Lodge #383 and the Eastern Star.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his father Gallius Dale Smith and his mother Galena Maria Barnett.
He is survived by his wife; Betty Treece Smith, sons; Paul R.(Carolyn M.) Smith, McCalla, AL, and Dale T. (Janet) Smith, Atlanta, GA, daughter; Samantha C. Smith, grandchildren; Carolyn Grace Smith and Anna Sue Smith, brothers; James (Jean) Smith and Thomas M. (Ayako) Smith and sister; Jean Sanders.
Visitation will be Saturday, June 23, 2012 form 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project or to The American Lung Association.
