Mrs. Marva Allen Harp, age 88, of Southside, AL passed away Tuesday, October 15, 2024. The family will receive friends Thursday, October 17, 2024, at 3:00 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 4:00 p.m., at Collier-Butler Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Joe Dismuke will officiate.
Marva was born and raised in Lexington, KY and never lost her love for all things Kentucky Wildcats. She attended Transylvania University for three years, where she me the love of her life, Charlie Harp. At that time, she moved to Gadsden, AL joining First Christian Church and Greeters. Marva was active in her church serving in various positions, was a substitute teacher, a daycare teacher, and a volunteer at Adams Elementary Special Education Department. After the closing of First Christian Church, Marva and Charlie joined Christ Central United Methodist Church. Marva remained active with the church by visiting shut-ins, welcoming new families and volunteering with Central Friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Henry Harp; daughter, Edith Harp Mueller; mother, Marie Ayers Allen and father, Marvin Pierce Allen.
Survivors include her daughter, Carrie Harp Nunnally; son, Pierce Harp (Chery Collins Harp); son-in-law, Doug Mueller; granddaughters, Nicole Mueller, Jessie Nunnally and Anna Harp; grandsons, Levi Nunnally (Selena Nunnally) and Chandler Harp; great granddaughters, Ada Jane Maloy, Layla Lutley and Mary Nunnally; great grandson, Charles Nunnally; brother, Darwin Allen (Sylvia Allen); nephews, Brant Allen (Lauren Allen) and Jason Allen (and family); nieces, Tatum Morita (Josh Morita and family), Shayr Guthrie (Jimmy Guthrie and family) and Kay Hankinson beloved dogs and companions, Abby and Oso.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Mrs. Harp’s memory be made to Rainbow City Animal Shelter, 4450 Steele Station Rd, Rainbow City, AL 35906.
A special thanks to Phyllis Hanson for her dedication and service over the past two years, offering friendship and companionship, while providing excellent care for her “Lady Bug”. We would also like to thank Deana Hayes, Dell Jackson, Pam Baker, Jacob Freeman and the entire staff of Gentiva Hospice.
