Funeral services will at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at Collier-Butler Funeral Home for Martha McCullars Austin , 90, of Gadsden, who passed away Monday, March 10, 2014. Blake Jones and Norman Flynn will officiate. Burial will be at Crestwood Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is directing.

Mrs. Austin was a charter member of Rainbow Church of Christ. She retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company after 35 years of service. She loved traveling, antiquing, quilting and doing her many crafts.

She was preceded in death by her husband; John McCullars Jr, ; parents, H. Milton and Maggie Medlin; sister, Evelyn Medlin; brother, Robert Medlin; her loving companion and friend, Tommy Thompson;

She is survived by her son; John W. (Judy) McCullars; grandchildren, Scott (Paige) McCullars, and Kelli McCullars (Dr. Scott) Williams; great-grandchildren, Sydney and Morgan McCullars, and Cole and Caitlin Williams; and sister, Mrs. Betty Newton; and several nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to her beloved friend and caregiver for the past 7 years, Kathy Gargone, whom she loved as her own daughter, and also to Sallie Gargone for her loving care; thanks to the staff of Oak Landing for their kindness and care for the past 5 years; and the staff of Comfort Care Hospice for the affection shown during her illness.

Pallbearers will be Bruce Phillips, Jeff McGlaughn, Tony Cleveland, Elmus Scott, Jimmy Keenum, and Bobby McCartney.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to The Greater Things Campaign at Rainbow Church of Christ at 2201 Rainbow Dr. Gadsden, AL 35901.

The family will accept friends from 12:00-2:00 p.m. at the funeral home Wednesday prior to the service.

She was a devoted Christian, loving, mother, grandmother, and great friend to many. She was always inspirational and encouraging to many people along her journey through life.

She left a legacy of love with all who knew her and will be greatly missed.
