Margaret Silvey Culberson Rouse, 96, of Gadsden went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at the home of her daughter where she resided for the last 6 years. Born in Etowah County, Mrs. Rouse was a 1932 graduate of Gadsden High and a 1936 graduate of the University of Alabama. She was married to Roy Lee Rouse on June 2, 1942. Mrs. Rouse worked as school librarian at Crossville High, Opp High, Wetumpka High, Murphy High (Mobile), and Etowah High. She was the reference librarian at the Gadsden Public Library from 1964-1985.
At Gadsden First Baptist Church where she attended for 89 years, she was active as the church librarian and a director of the Women’s Missionary Union. She was gifted at making posters, displays and sewing costumes. Her sewing talents endeared her to the Gadsden Little Theater where she was costume mistress and props manager. Mrs. Rouse was an active member of the Gadsden Music Club and Etowah Historical Society.
Mrs. Rouse is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Nina Culberson, and her husband, Roy L. Rouse.
She is survived by her three sons, Thomas Clay Rouse (Toni) of Miami, Florida, David Lee Rouse (Frances) of Melbourne, Florida, Paul Mason Rouse (Marcia) of Centerville, Ohio; one daughter, ten great grandchildren.
The family would like to extend love and appreciation to Mrs. Rouse’s devoted caregivers for the last 8 years; Mary Gregory Sewell, Nancy Nene, Camille Pritchett, Shelby Greenlee, and Teresa Priddy.
The funeral will be on Saturday, July 16, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Collier-Butler Funeral Home. James Stivender, J.T. Harrell and Bobby Junkins will officiate. The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 2:00 before the service. In Lieu of flowers, the family asks that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Lottie Moon or Annie Armstrong Missions offerings at First Baptist Church, the Gadsden Music Club or the Etowah Historical Society.
