On Tuesday November 22nd, Judy Moore, who loved to be called “Nana” by her grandchildren, passed away.
Judy was born in Rahway, New Jersey on January 6th,1943 to Robert and Charlotte Johanson and grew up outside of Chicago. She went on to attend the University of Iowa where she met her loving husband Nate. They were together for nearly 60 years.
Judy graduated from Kent State University with both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in elementary education. As a teacher, Judy had a passion for educating children. She taught 6th grade science at Hokes Bluff Middle School for decades where she influenced more young people in the community than she even knew. She loved reading historical books and biographies, watching classic movies, and most of all, vacationing with her husband to spend time with her family.
Judy was best known for her fierce determination, loyalty, and devotion to her family. Her true passion was always her children Rachel, Nate, Abby, and Teddy and her grandchildren Nathan, Zoe, Bradley, Abigail, George, Ruby, Theo, and Desmond. She gave them unwavering love and instilled in them a tremendous sense of confidence and strength. She loved nothing more than supporting and celebrating their accomplishments. Family and close friends will fondly remember Judy’s ability to plan the most special details for holidays, and to never miss an opportunity to engage in great conversation with those she loved.
Judy is survived by her husband Nate, her children and grandchildren, and her brother Bob.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection in Rainbow City, Alabama. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family kindly prefers that any donations be directed to the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection in Rainbow City, AL.
