Burial will follow at Rainbow Memorial Gardens with military honors. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is in charge.
Born on March 2, 1925, in Talladega County, Alabama, Joe was the oldest child of Harry Lee and Vista Hall. Joe's childhood was spent within the same neighborhood that housed his family for generations. Answering the call of duty in 1942, Joe enlisted in the Navy. He served his country with honor during WWII, primarily stationed in the Aleutian Islands and the South Pacific. Returning to Alabama, Joe found the love of his life—Marjorie Perry. They married in 1949, beginning a love story that would endure seven decades, until Marjorie's passing in 2019. Joe is now rejoined with Marjorie—together again, always.
Joe was a diligent worker, dedicating many years to the steel industry in Gadsden and later serving as a machinist foreman with Anniston Army Depot. Yet, his work extended beyond his professional life. A skilled carpenter, he meticulously crafted the house where they raised their children. Many will remember the intricate wooden puzzles, dollhouses, and more he created for his family. In his later years, Joe's hands remained busy, refurbishing furniture, constructing benches, lamps, and many other pieces. A lover of the outdoors, Joe would often be found deer hunting or casting a fishing line or teaching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren how to fish from his backyard pier. Joe was also a founding member, chorister, and deacon of James Memorial Baptist Church. He was known for his unwavering faith and commitment to his community.
Joe is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 70 years, Marjorie Hall; his parents, Harry Lee and Vista Hall; and his siblings, Robert Hall and Virginia Carl.
He is survived by his sisters Ruth Irwin, Evelyn Burk, and Mary Jo Martin. Joe was the loving father of Terry Hall, Thoma Schooling (Carl), Susan Michalik (Rick), and Tim Hall (Carla). He was the grandfather of eight [Valerie Brantley (Ed), Matthew Hall (Christy), Joel Schooling, Amelia Beeler (Daniel), Jana Michalik (Roark), Melodie Turner (Michael), Nathan Michalik, Rachel Michalik] and great-grandfather of eight [Lydia Durant, Houston Beeler, Laine Hall, Donovan Brantley, Bennett Hall, Harrison Beeler, June Beeler, Adam Turner].
Special thanks to Michelle, Joe's devoted and special caregiver.
Joe’s legacy will continue to inspire all those whose lives were touched by his faith and kindness.
The family will receive friends from noon until the hour of service at the funeral home Friday.
