Funeral services will be Sunday, June 30th, 2019, at 2:30 p.m., at Collier-Butler Chapel for Joe Ann Dooley, 87, who passed away Wednesday, June 26th, 2019. The Rev. Tim Childers will officiate. Interment will be at Crestwood Cemetery. Arrangements under the direction of Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services.
Joe Ann was born at Ft. Benning, GA on October 25, 1931. She spent much of her childhood as an “army brat” at various U.S. military bases in Georgia, Florida, Texas, North Carolina, Indiana and Minnesota. She graduated from Etowah High School, Class of 1948. Joe Ann met and married Frank Dooley, Sr. and, after a brief stay in Indiana, returned to Gadsden to begin a family. She served her church as a secretary for 41 years and taught in various capacities. For years after her retirement, she would reflexively answer her home phone, “College Heights Baptist Church.” Joe Ann completed her career as a volunteer at Gadsden Regional Medical Center. After a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease, she passed away at the age of 87. Throughout her life, even into her final days, Joe Ann was much admired and loved for her warmth, humor, and goodwill. In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorial contributions be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association. (www.alz.org/donate)
