Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, Hokes Bluff for Jeff M. “J.M.” Beasley, Hokes Bluff, who passed away Monday, May 7, 2012. Pastor Eric House will officiate. Burial will follow at Hokes Bluff Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremations Services is directing.
Mr. Beasley was born on September 30, 1934 in Calhoun County, Alabama. He was a 1952 graduate of Hokes Bluff High School and a 1956 graduate of Auburn University and he earned graduate degrees from the University of Alabama. He taught at Hokes Bluff High School and was an agribusiness teacher at Alexandria High School.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hokes Bluff, where he served as a deacon and a Sunday school teacher. He was Advisor for the Future Farmers of America chapter at Alexandria High School and a member of the Agribusiness Teachers Association, AEA and NEA. He served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps.
He was preceded in death by his parents Martin G. and Clara Morris Beasley. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Bettie Beasley; two sons, John (Anne) Beasley, Eufaula, Alabama and Paul Beasley, Hokes Bluff: seven grandchildren, Holly (Chris) Mitchell, Dothan, Ashley (Britt) Washington, Eufaula, Alabama, Brittany (Leland) Hill, Pell City, Jared Beasley, Hokes Bluff,John Martin Beasley, Eufaula, Alabama Elizabeth Anne Beasley, Eufaula, Alabama, and Jacob Beasley, Hokes Bluff; and four great-grandchildren Gray and Katherine Mitchell and Taylor and Emma Carson Washington; two sisters, Aileen Lavender, Hokes Bluff and Sue (George) Breeden, Decatur; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family will accept flowers or donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Hokes Bluff.
Pallbearers will be Jared and John Martin Beasley, Chris Mitchell, Britt Washington, Leland Hill, Ray, Jeff and David Breeden, Alan Hull and Kelly Morris.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Jason Aryes and Dr. Bryan McGwier and members of Bill Street’s Sunday school class at First Baptist Church, Hokes Bluff.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 9, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Thursday, May 10, 2012.
The family expresses sincere thanks to the wonderful caregivers from Lawley Hospice, in particular Darcie Raines, Sandra, Janelle, Barbie, and Rev. Dave Roberts.
