Janet Emelyn Gregerson, 92, of Rainbow City, AL left this earthly plane September 27, 2024, surrounded by family who loved and adored her. Janet was a blue-eyed beautiful blonde child born October 17, 1931, in Princeton, IL. The second child of Edwin and Margaret Dyke, Janet grew up on Elm Street in Princeton with her siblings Donald, Joan, and Gerald.
Janet was a cherished and happy child who loved the outdoors and climbing trees, playing the piano and the clarinet. She had her mother's eye for detail and her father's mechanical ability. There was nothing around the home she couldn't fix. She caught the eye of Peter V. Gregerson, and he knew without a doubt that she was "the one" for him. She became Peter's beloved bride on January 14, 1951 and were married for 73 years. Early in their marriage, she and Peter served as unpaid domestic missionaries. Janet served on many charitable boards in Etowah County, but is most remembered for her 17 years volunteering with M.A.N.N.A. in serving the hungry, often taking one of her grandchildren with her. Peter gives Janet all the credit for their lifetime of accomplishments as "the wind beneath his wings." Through the years, they traveled to many parts of the world and were blessed with many unique experiences.
Janet regarded her family as her greatest blessing. As beloved wife to Peter, she became the blessed mother of seven children, Peter Jr. (Greg), David (Dawn), Vicki (Jim), Douglas, Debra, Cindy (Roger), and Thomas (Wendy); cherished "Gramma" to 23 grandchildren, 20 chosen grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 6 chosen great-grandchildren, and 1 great great-grandchild. Without exception, each of these loved and adored her. She kept up with all of their special moments and was everyone's biggest cheerleader.
Those closest to her knew she had a fun sense of humor, she loved to play cards and Wordle. Janet was a beautiful woman, full of quiet grace, empathetic and humble, generous, with a heart full of love for her family and all she met. She was the epitome of love, kindness, goodness, self-control, mildness, and peace with the heart of a servant. Everyone who knew her, loved her. The world is a better place because of Janet's life. Although we, her family, mourn deeply her absence, we long for the day we will see her again, once again with beautiful blonde hair, sparkling mischievous blue eyes, radiant with the love of God, the love she always reflected.
A visitation for Janet will be held Sunday, September 29, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Collier-Butler Funeral Home, 824 Rainbow Drive, Gadsden, AL 35901, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM.
