Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 15, 2011 at Collier-Butler Chapel for Mrs. Grace Irene Grigsby Gramling, 89, Southside who passed away Sunday, February 12, 2012. The Reverend Daniel Barkley and The Reverend Carl Cook will officiate with burial at Forrest Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Service Directing.
Mrs. Gramling was born in Etowah County on March 28, 1922 to Anna G. McGhee Grigsby and Luther Napoleon Grigsby. She was a graduate of Gadsden High School and attended Gadsden State Community College. Mrs. Gramling was the office manager for Rainbow Mattress and later the secretary of the corporation for Rainbow Medical Inc. She was a member of East Gadsden Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where she was an elder, Sunday school teacher for 50 years and a member of the choir. She was a member of Credit Women International for over 25 years; charter member of Fraternal Order of Police Auxiliary and charter member , president and editor of the Gadsden Chapter of the United Ostomy Association.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willard D. Gramling, brother, James W. Grigsby, sisters, Jane Kennelly, Anobel Pogue and Mae White.
Survivors include her son, Larry (Janet) Gramling, Ohatchee, AL, daughters, Jane Gramling (Joe) Creel, Southside, AL and Carole Gramling (Tournay) Edwards, Southside, AL.
Grandchildren, Jonathan (Amy) Edwards, Arab, AL, Jeremy (Holly) Edwards, Southside, AL, Matthew (Meaghan) Edwards, Nashville, TN, Diana Gramling, Atlanta, GA and David Gramling, Ohatchee, AL
Great grandchildren: Meghan and Peyton Brambley and Gracie Edwards
Sisters: Dixie Stewart, Gadsden, AL and Pat (Bill) Bowers, Ringgold, GA
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to Gadsden Cumberland Presbyterian Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 2055, Gadsden, AL 35903 or to your favorite charity.
The family extends a special thanks to Mountain Cove Assisted Living and Amedisys Hospice and the loving care takers who became members of our family.
