Don was born September 9, 1966 in Gadsden, AL. Due to COVID-19, there will be no public services. He grew up in East Gadsden and graduated from Litchfield High School in 1986. Don was an avid Alabama football fan who enjoyed both the game and the banter that comes along with it. He was also a huge Star Trek fan and spent much of his free time collecting memorabilia connected to these interests. He worked at Gadsden Regional Hospital for 24 years and considered the people he worked with as his second family. Don had a dry quick wit and was a friend to everyone he met.
Don is survived by his wife Debbie Williams Powell, his parents Bob and Jackie Powell, children Kevin (Paula), James (Crystal), Jacob (Nicole) and grandchildren Cameron, Austin, Lily, Cash, Jack, Payton, and Oakleigh, his sister Debbie McCombs (Curtis) and his nephew David McCombs. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Otto and Madge Powell and William and Tommy Cox.
The family would like to extend their thanks to Dr. Shawnta Anakwah and her staff at the Gadsden Regional Cancer Clinic for their care and kindness during Don’s illness. Also a special thanks to the Kindred Hospice group in Rainbow City for the excellent and attentive care he received during the last month.
In leu of flowers please make donations to the American Cancer Society.
