Funeral services for Mr. Billy Everett Green, 65, of Gadsden, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at Collier-Butler Chapel. The Rev. Taylor Gallman will officiate with burial to follow at Dailey’s Chapel Cemetery in Blount County. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services directing.
Mr. Billy Everett Green was born on April 26, 1948, to Sonia and the late Everett Green. He was raised in Melbourne, Florida, where he attended and graduated from Melbourne High School. Billy was a member of the 1966 Melbourne High School football team that led the Bulldogs to win the State Championship. Billy received a football scholarship to Auburn University and graduated with a degree in Education in 1971. He met his wife, Cathy, at Auburn University and they were married in 1971. The couple moved to Gadsden after graduation. Billy was a teacher and football coach until he retired in 1999. He was passionate about making a difference in the lives of his students and players. Billy enjoyed spending time with his family and watching his grandsons play sports.
He was preceded in death by his father, Everett Green.
Survivors include his wife, Cathy Green; daughters, Cari Heiberger, Mandi Taylor, and Kaci Wilson; son-in-laws, Jeff Heiberger, Bo Taylor, and Clint Wilson; six grandchildren; mother, Sonia Green; brother, Bobby Green; and sister, Susie McClellan.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Heiberger, Bo Taylor, Clint Wilson, Jimmy Perry, Andrew Heiberger, and Jonathan Amos.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 3, 2013, from 6-8 p.m. at Collier-Butler Funeral Home in Gadsden.
