We are saddened to announce the passing of our beloved mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend, Barbara Black Jones, of Southside, AL. She passed away peacefully at 85, surrounded by family at home on September 1, 2023.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 7 at 2:00 p.m. at Collier Butler Funeral Home. Chance Goodwin will officiate. Burial will follow at Williams Southside Cemetery, Southside, AL. Visitation will be held between 12:00 pm until the hour of service.
Barbara was born July 19, 1938 in Gadsden, Alabama to the late W.C. (Buster) and Lorene Black. She graduated from Gadsden High School in 1956. She and Jerry married on March 30, 1957. They were married for 65 years and 10 months when he passed away January 30, 2023. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church.
Barbara’s smile would light up a room. She never met a stranger, only a future friend. She was devoted to her family and friends and lived her life to the fullest, spreading laughter and love wherever she went. She was always seeking to brighten the lives of everyone she met. She will be extremely missed and continuously remembered, and her love of life will be carried forever in our hearts.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry W. Jones; son, Bret Jones; and granddaughter, Jordan Estes.
She is survived by her children, Becky Martin (Louis), Alan Jones (Tina), Karen Estes (Burt); grandchildren, Andrea Martin (Corey), Alex Jones (Zoe), Zack Estes, Kendra Sherrod (Nath); great-grandchildren, Devyn Estes, Deklen Sherrod; sister, Judy Black; brother, Larry Black (Kay); chosen son, Gary Young; chosen daughter, Julie Pope; chosen sister, Becky Oglesby; special cousin, Brenda Wright; special great-nephew, Chris Jones; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
Pallbearers will be Anthony Goodwin, Chris Jones, John Wyatt Jones, Ben Brown, Pete Bender, Keith Raines. Honorary pallbearers will be Travis Cox, Randall Wallace, Ethan Jones, Cooper Jones, Ray Strawbridge, and Grace Sunday School Class Southside Baptist Church.
