Martha Ann (Conner) Burger, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and lifelong servant of her faith, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, just 10 days shy of her 89th birthday.
She was a caring daughter who faithfully cared for both her parents (William and Minnie Conner) until their passing and loyal sister to her older sister and best friend, Wanda Moore (Jack). She was a devoted wife to her husband, Erston, for 49 years, and together they built a life filled with love and commitment until his death in 2008.
Ann always pushed her daughter, Lesa, to be her very best, guiding her with wisdom, love, and unwavering support. Though she had only one biological child, Martha embraced her son-in-law, Billy, as her own and loved him deeply.
Ann’s greatest joy, however, came from being a grandmother to Brandi Harbison (Micah), Wesley Dillard (Brittany), and Lance Gunnells (Abbie), who loving called her “Rooney.” She cherished her great grandchildren Dannie Rae, Paisley, Carter, Jace, Essie, and Greta. In the later years of her life, Ann found a special companionship in her quirky dachshund, Maddie, who brought her great joy and comfort.
A lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Gadsden, Ann was a tireless servant to her faith community. She worked as a secretary, taught Sunday School, played the piano, and served on numerous committees throughout the years. Her faith and her family were the cornerstones of her life, and she lived each day with unwavering conviction and devotion.
While her family mourns her passing, they find comfort in knowing that Ann has been reunited with those she loved, most especially with the love of her life, Erston. Her legacy lives on through her family, who were the center of her world.
Visitation will be held at 1:30 pm on Sunday, December 21, 2024, at the First Baptist Church of Gadsden, Nowlin Chapel, with the funeral service to follow at 2:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Gadsden in her memory.
