Funeral services will be at noon Saturday, February 11, 2017 at Collier-Butler Chapel for Alva Naomi Johnson, Gadsden, who died Wednesday, February 8, 2017 in Gadsden. The Rev. John Dickinson and Dr. Randy Postell will officiate. Burial will follow in Crestwood Cemetery with Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services directing.
Ms. Johnson was a native of Cherokee County and had resided in Etowah County most of her life. She was a member of East Gadsden Baptist Church and was retired from Alabama Power Company.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Morgan and Annie Mae Reed Johnson; one brother and six sisters.
She is survived by one brother, William Johnson, Huntsville; special nieces, Ava Garmon and Alva Barksdale (Jeff), Montgomery; several nephews, nieces and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Barksdale, Jeff Barksdale, Ryan Jackson, Jayde Boatfield, Roger Howard, Henry Allen Ray, Jeff Norton, Mike Beaird, and Gene Barnes.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Lambert, Lamar Ray, Hugh Allen Johnson, Mike Griffin, Bill Singleton, Don Singleton, James Johnson, Ray McCarver, retirees of Alabama Power Company, and members of East Gadsden Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Annie Armstrong Mission Offering at East Gadsden Baptist Church, 211 6th Street N. Gadsden, AL 35903.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
