James was born on October 27, 1939 in Fulton, MO the son of Odie C. and Minnie (Kroell) McVeigh who preceded him in death. He graduated from Fulton High School in 1957. He was united in marriage on January 19, 1964 in Fulton, MO to Shirley (Clasby) McVeigh who preceded him in death in 2017. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving from 1957-1963. Jim retired in 1996 from USPS as a city mail carrier after 38 years of service. He was a faithful and lifelong member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, where he was honorary Deacon, Sunday School superintendent and song leader. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt, fish and collector of guns. He was passionate about music, he enjoyed singing, playing his guitar and harmonica and played in various groups around Callaway County.
Survivors include: three daughters, JoDonna Edwards of Russellville, MO, Sharon Bramon of Monroe, GA and Carole Wells of New Bloomfield, MO; one son, James Guerrant of Ft. Morgan, CO; two brothers, Stephen H. McVeigh of Spring, TX and John Lee McVeigh of Fulton, MO; two sisters, Mary Lou Phillips of Fulton, MO and Martha McVeigh of Fulton, MO; 9 grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024 from 10:00 am – 11:00 am at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Fulton, MO. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 am at the church with Rev. Mike Hibbard officiating. Burial will be in Ebenezer Cemetery with full military honors.
