Robert Joseph Nagle passed away on October 24, 2022 at the age of 91 years old. Born February 22, 1931, he was the ninth of nine children born to Michael Frances Nagle and Jesse Caroline (Wicks) in Gilroy, California. He was raised on their prune orchard farm in Gilroy, during the Great Depression. His father passed away when he was 12 years old. He graduated from Gilroy High School in 1949 where he enjoyed auto shop, wood working, and track (hurdles and high jump). He worked and went to college before joining the United States Air Force and served from 1951 to 1955 both in Germany and in Oklahoma as a radar specialist. He then attended Fresno State University and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology. He moved to Southern California and met his future wife, Virginia Marie D’Agostino, whom he married on December 29, 1962 in St. Louis, MO, at the Church of the Little Flower. They eventually settled in Fullerton, California, where they raised their three children. They were married just shy of 45 years before his wife's sudden passing on December 17, 2007. Robert (Bob) worked hard his entire life, including over 30 years as a geologist for Moore & Taber Engineers and Geologists, where he managed the soils testing lab for the company, which provided geotechnical engineering throughout Southern California from the 1960’s through the 1990’s. He loved his family and lived his life for them never hesitating to share his love, his faith, his integrity, his care, his stability, his time, his support of his wife, children and grandchildren from their first moments to his last moments. He was a member of St. Juliana parish for 50 years and was proud of his Irish Catholic heritage. He shared the importance of his faith with his children and grandchildren, especially in the way he lived and loved. He loved to bar-be-que and take care of his roses and avocado and citrus trees in his backyard garden. Working to care for his family was his priority, and he was a tremendous husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, neighbor, coworker, manager, & friend. He meant the world to those who knew him and loved him and we to him. He and the home he created with our mother was a safe & happy place for family and friends to grow up, to drop by and to gather. He was an avid golfer and an Anaheim Angels fan. At 91, he lived his life as he always did, independently and devoted to those he loved and treasured by those who loved him. He shopped and made his own meals. He started each day with the morning newspaper crossword puzzle and went to bed every night with it finished. He enjoyed picking horse favorites in the paper and watching horse racing on television as well as football, baseball, golf & NASCAR. He lived his life for his children and grandchildren with whom he maintained an especially close connection. He whistled while he worked and whistled and sang ditties at home. He paid attention to detail, but always understood the bigger picture. He was good at working with his hands; at fixing anything. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed the cocktail hour. He was the pitcher on the work slow-pitch softball team, and the company poet. He cared about people and lived out his faith by caring and being there. He never let anyone down, especially his family. He was respected because he lived his life faithfully & truthfully and with deep care and commitment for those he loved.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 45 years Virginia, his parents and siblings: Marie (Nagle) Silva, Harriett Nagle, Michael Nagle Jr., Henry Nagle, Jay (Nagle) Thrasher, Dorothy (Nagle) Sturla, and Edna Nagle. He is survived by his sister Patricia (Nagle) Mercer, his children Robert Nagle Jr, John Nagle, and Marianne (Nagle) Pisani, and his beloved grandchildren - Lauren Marie Pisani, Caroline Rose Pisani and Michael Pisani. Dad was a most beloved husband, father and grandfather. He was the most selfless man. We love him dearly. He will be forever missed, and cherished always.
Visitation will be 5 pm to 7 pm, and Rosary at 7 pm on November 20, at McAulay & Wallace Morturay in Fullerton. Funeral mass will be November 21, 10 am at St. Juliana Falconieri Catholic Church in Fullerton. He will be laid to rest with full military honors at the Riverside National Cemetery on December 29.
