He was the youngest of seven children born to Esperanza Archuleta and Federico Martinez of Pueblo, Colorado. He was a sixth generation American, the son of early Colorado pioneers.
Carlos was preceded in death by his bride of sixty-eight years, Vera Vidana Martinez and youngest daughter, Catherine Jane Martinez.
He is survived by his daughter, Dr. Caroline Martinez Gonzalez, his son Mark Fredrick Martinez Esq., daughter in law Rosemary Martinez; his Granddaughters Dr. Susan Carole Gonzalez, Dr. Elizabeth Therese Gonzalez-Sidrian, son in law Modesto Sidrian Jr., great granddaughter Veronica Sophia Sidrian and great great grandson Elliot Lorenzo Sidrian-Gomez.
A proud Navy veteran, he served in WWII as a radioman on the troopship, USS General T. H. Bliss (AP-131). During the Korean conflict he was a radioman stationed at the Naval Air Facility Adak, Alaska.
Carlos is a graduate of the University of Southern California.
A devout Catholic, he was active at St. Bruno parish in Whittier.
He was a model of patience, perseverance, independence, and moderation. He was known for his dry wit.
He was our protector and shepherd. He was a Gentleman with a Warrior Spirit. A child of the pioneer American West.
