William ‘John’ Plotnicki passed away on February 6 at home surrounded by family.
He was born in Knoxville, TN and went to University of Tennessee for his BS in Physics and PhD in Computer Science.
John came to Fort Collins in 1974 and received an MBA. It was this experience that convinced him he wanted to eventually live in Fort Collins. In 1979 after receiving his PhD, he began teaching in the CSU Computer Information Systems Department. John was committed to the Department and his students. In addition, he was instrumental in building strong business relationships with IBM, Hewlett-Packard, and JD Edwards. These relationships helped him build a ‘state of the art’ computer lab and place many of his students in great positions.
He is survived by his wife Maureen, his step daughter Chelsea Burg, and his brother, Skip Plotnicki.
