Wallace Emerson Jungmeyer, 90, beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully on September 1, 2018 at his home in Fort Collins. Wally was born on December 27, 1927 in Cook, Nebraska to Reverend Albert and Irene Jungmeyer.
Wally grew up in a Midwest farming community and in Colorado, played many sports including basketball and golf, served in the U.S. Army for two years in Korea, and received a B.S. in Mathematics from Colorado State University with work also completed towards his master’s degree. As the son of a Lutheran pastor, he was raised in the church and was an active Lutheran his entire life, serving on church council and building committees, singing in choir, and in other areas. Much of this was at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Collins, his home congregation.
In 1949 he married Geraldine M. Jungmeyer in Fort Collins after meeting her at a church youth group. They had three children, and as he built his career the family moved to New Mexico, California, Maryland and eventually settled back in Colorado. They divorced in 1994. In 2001, after a short courtship he married Pat Venable of Fort Collins and they lived in Fort Collins.
Following college, Wally began his career as a computer programmer-analyst at Sandia Corporation, Curtiss-Wright Corporation and Computer Sciences Corporation. He worked on numerous top-secret projects involving space, weather, data, and weapons. He founded two small start-up software consulting companies in Washington D.C. In Fort Collins, Wally developed Jungmeyer & Company, a land development and construction firm. In his varied career, Wally was interested in mineral development, and worked as a stockbroker and for Avis.
Wally loved the Broncos and CSU Rams, and as a proud alum of the Rams attended many sporting events over the years. His passions were reading, politics, puzzles, church choir, playing lots of golf, storytelling, and above all enjoying time spent with family, especially his beloved wife.
He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Pat Venable; children, Janet Shibly (C.J.), Karla Vesey (Greg), Tom Jungmeyer (Linda); stepchildren Kathy Beck (Don), Dave Venable (Melissa); 13 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Preceding Wally in death are his parents; three siblings, Liz Felker, Joan Morris and Al Jungmeyer; and two infant granddaughters.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 22 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 Stuart Street, Fort Collins, CO 80525. A reception will immediately follow.
