Born August 2nd 1924 in Clarks Nebraska to Arthur and Florence Ekstrom. Mary Alice graduated as valedictorian from High Prairie High School class of 1941. She received a teaching certificate from Luther College in Wahoo Nebraska and began her teaching career at age 18.
Mary Alice married Floyd Spelts July 27th, 1947 in Swede Home Nebraska. They farmed in Polk County Nebraska until 1957 when they moved to Fort Collins Colorado with their 2 children, Dan and Janie. Mary Alice worked in the front office at both Fort Collins and Poudre high schools over the years. She started selling real estate and 3 years later Floyd joined her in business with Century 21. Mary Alice enjoyed volunteer work with the senior center, Good Samaritan, and Church Women United amongst others. She enjoyed card games, Mahjong, Scrabble and Bingo. Mary Alice and Floyd enjoyed the Antique Car Club, traveling with Good Sam and they became members of Trinity Lutheran church in the late 1950’s. Mary Alice also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchild.
She is survived by sister-in-law Mildred Ekstrom, son Dan (partner Sharon Daly), grand-daughter Kim (partner Christie), grandson Bryan (Tara) and great-grandchildren Ariana, Ajourney, Angelina, and Aiden. And by her daughter Janie (Mike), granddaughters Amber and Angie (Hans), great-granddaughters Peyton and Rylee (Dylan) and great-great-granddaughter Georgia.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Floyd, sisters Orpha, Rosalie, Marjorie Anne, and brother John.
Funeral service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Collins, CO on Saturday December 14th at 11am.
