As the third of six children, Mary grew up in Wellington, Timnath and Fort Collins. She graduated from Fort Collins High School. She married Eldon Cecil Burr in 1946. They had two children, Richard (Dalene(deceased), Elizabeth) and Steven (Linda). Cecil passed away in Jan 1958. In the summer of 1958, she married Harold Laws. They had two children, Scott (Susie) and Gary (Julie). On Dec 7, 1974 she married Frances “Bud” Powell.
Mary had four sons, eleven grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren.
Mary was always a dedicated worker. She worked at A&W Rootbeer Stand, North Eventide Nursing Home, CSU Forestry Lab, Seder Plastics and Kodak. After retiring from Kodak Mary would work at Furr’s Cafeterias in the wintertime to occupy her time when she was not pursuing her passions of gardening, sewing, roses, camping and fishing. An accomplished seamstress, her granddaughters received all the Barbie clothes they wanted. She made many shirts that friends would threaten to steal if she left them unattended. Her love of gardening provided home grown food for her, Bud, extended family as well as neighbors. Her apple trees provided ammunition for her sons and the neighborhood kids as well as the best pies in Fort Collins.
Mary was den mother for multiple years. She always found time to spend with her children and grandchildren as they gathered at her home for holidays. She particularly enjoyed Sunday Bingo at the American Legion up until her final days.
Mary is predeceased in death by her first husband Cecil and siblings: Maxine, Anita, Edna, Wilbur and Lois, and her grandson Nathan Laws.
