Mark was born on March 10,1948 alongside his twin brother Gregory in Chicago, Illinois at Saint Bernard's Hospital to his parents Bertha and Joseph Poliakon. As one of seven boys growing up in Fox Lake Illinois he graduated from Grant High School. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1968 where he served in Germany as a Helicopter Repairman up until discharge in 1970. In 1974 Mark moved from Illinois to Colorado where he attended Colorado State University acquiring a degree in Physical Education. After college he worked as a physical education teacher, auto painter and auto body technician, leading to his longtime profession as an insurance adjuster where he worked up until his declining health made it too hard to do so.
Mark enjoyed working on his automobile projects throughout his life. In his early Loveland, Colorado years he participated and won many Jeep competitions with his custom green Jeep nicknamed "The Hulk”. He was also well known for building many custom cafe racer motorcycles in his spare time and his over-the-top holiday lighting and decoration displays were a neighborhood staple that will be missed by kids and adults alike. Mark's sense of humor, artistic touch, and hardworking attitude was infectious and will live on in our thoughts.
Surviving are Mark's three sons, Eric Poliakon, Ross Poliakon, Sean Poliakon and his beloved dog Tank.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 26th at 4:00 p.m. in the East Auditorium at Timberline Church, 2908 S. Timberline Rd, Ft. Collins, CO 80525. A reception will follow the service and all are invited to attend.
