She leaves behind her husband, David R Kohout of Fort Collins, Colorado; four daughters: Renee Moosdorf of Windsor, Colorado; Katrina (Rick) Lewis of Windsor, Colorado; Laura (Greg) Gentilucci of Centennial, Colorado; and Christina (Harrell) Cross of Loveland, Colorado; along with her husband’s children: Apryl (Gary) Wolfinger, Chad (Kelley) Kohout, Tiffany (Colton) Zimmerman, and Daniel (Penny) Kohout. Julie also leaves behind 8 grandchildren: Karissa Nelson, Alex Gentilucci, Emily Kohout, Natalie Trobee, Alyssa Wolfinger, Samuel Kohout, Casey Zimmerman, and Allister Kohout, two brothers Bill (Judy) Schmidt and Jim (Donna) Schmidt and many nieces and nephews. Wow, what a crowd! Julie was preceded in death by her former husband, Robert P Moosdorf and her parents, Paul and Ina Schmidt and four brothers, Jack Schmidt and three that passed in infancy.
Julie was born in Dubuque, IA on July 10, 1945 to Paul and Ina Schmidt of Platteville, Wisconsin as the third child with two older and one younger brother. After graduating high school, she met Air Force Sergeant Robert (Bob) Moosdorf who she married on November 19, 1966. Julie was a stay-at-home mother to their four daughters while living in various places such as the Philippines; Washington, DC; and Arlington, Virginia. After Bob retired in 1980 when they were stationed in Denver, Colorado. They decided to move to Loveland, Colorado after his retirement where Julie continued to raise her girls.
Julie and Bob divorced in 1988 and both continued to be heavily involved in their daughters and each other’s lives until he died in 2011. Julie had a succession of jobs before deciding to become a CNA and provide home health care. She was a wonderful caregiver and always used her kindness and generosity in her work. Julie enjoyed hobbies such as puzzles, shopping, spending time with family & friends, hosting gatherings, and cooking. Throughout her life she was a beautiful, stylish, and elegant lady.
Julie met David Kohout on November 1, 2016 at Village Inn during a blind date setup by a mutual friend. They got married on April 15, 2018 and both had the privilege of fulfilling a dream by spending 3 weeks in Israel in 2020. Julie’s faith was a cornerstone of her life, including a personal relationship with her heavenly father. Both David and Julie were members of a small home fellowship of very close friends of her faith.
