John grew up in northern Illinois. After college graduation he began a 33-year teaching career at Clifford Johnson Elementary School in East Aurora. During those years he taught 4th, 5th, and 6th grade while coaching every sport for boys and girls. Upon his retirement, the gym at Johnson School was dedicated as the John Adams Gymnasium.
John married Cindy in April of 1999. Following retirement John and Cindy moved to Fort Collins, Colorado. John volunteered many years for the Rocky Mountain Raptors Program in Ft. Collins.
John was an avid outdoorsman, over the years enjoying hiking, camping, backpacking, canoeing, wildlife photography, and especially fishing. He was a precociously talented fisherman as a youngster, out-fishing many skilled adult anglers as a six year-old. He maintained and honed those skills throughout his life, fishing throughout the Rocky Mountain West and especially focusing on North Park and the North Platte River in southern Wyoming.
John was an avid reader, a fine guitar picker, and a relentless puzzle solver.
John is survived by his wife, Cindy; Cindy’s son, Tim; John’s brother, Tom (Renee); his aunt, Jane Libberton; and cousins Jane Reuber, Katy Hansen, Kevin and Michael Libberton.
Memorial gifts in honor of John Adams may be made to the Rocky Mountain Raptor Program, 2519 Shields St. #1K-115, Ft. Collins, CO 80526
