Genevieve Opal Forbes

Genevieve Opal Forbes passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2024 at 1:15 pm. Genevieve was born on a farm-ranch south of Atkinson, Nebraska on August 24, 1926 to Lillie Anna Fix Smith and Carl Louis Smith. She was one of nine children. She graduated from Atkinson High School in 1943 at the age of seventeen and directly following graduation, she taught in the rural schools of Nebraska.

On September 1, 1946, Genevieve married Alvin Arthur Forbes. After a farm sale in 1957, the family moved to Fort Collins, Colorado. To continue teaching in Colorado, Genevieve needed a degree. She enrolled at Colorado State University in January 1958 and graduated with a bachelor's degree in June 1960. She retired in 1987, after a 34 year teaching career.

Throughout her life Genevieve had many interests that took her and her husband on many trips, she and Alvin enjoyed going to 48 of the 50 states. After retiring from teaching, she began to make quilts. She enjoyed making quilts at home and was a member of a quilting club for many years. Her quilts were given to her children and grandchildren. Genevieve had five flower gardens, they were one of her great loves. Iris and daylilies were her favorites. After going to gospel meetings, Genevieve made her choice to follow Jesus in his simple way and plan for salvation. She never wanted to miss a Sunday morning meeting or Bible study.

Genevieve was preceded in death by her husband Alvin; her parents; four brothers and four sisters. Genevieve is survived by sons Gerald (Gwen) and Lesley (Patricia). Genevieve is also survived by her five grandchildren; Wendy (Bill) Stoneking and family; Tammy (Kim Harring) Forbes; Shane Forbes; Bradley (Ashley) Forbes and family; Tanya Forbes and family.

A visitation for Genevieve will be held Thursday, November 21, 2024 at 10:30 AM at Allnutt Funeral Service – Drake Road Chapel, 650 W. Drake Rd., Ft. Collins, Colorado 80526, followed by a Funeral Service starting at 11:00 AM.

A viewing will occur Saturday, November 23, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Seger Funeral Home (no luncheon to follow).

Memorial contributions can be made to Pathways Hospice in Genevieve's name.
