Born in Hanover, New Hampshire on March 11, 1947, Alison was the only daughter of Betty-Anne and Frank Jones. She and her two brothers were raised in the small town of Springfield, Vermont and experienced a loving and joyful childhood.
Alison was a lifelong learner. She earned three degrees including a Bachelor’s of Education from the University of Denver, a Master’s in Education from Boston University and a Bachelor’s in Landscape Architecture from Colorado State University. For almost 20 years, Alison lived overseas and taught in England, Ethiopia, and several countries in Southeast Asia. She later taught English as a Second Language at CSU.
In 1969, Alison married David Dennis in Springfield, after meeting in New York City. Together they welcomed a daughter, Sutinah. Following their many overseas experiences, they settled in northern Colorado in 1990, where David was a medical scientist with the U.S Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Alison was a loving parent and wife. She was sincere and caring to her many friends. Alison was genuine and sensitive. She demonstrated intelligence in all that she did and had a wry and easygoing sense of humor. Alison was always far more concerned with the lives of others than that of her own.
In addition to her love of teaching, Alison had a passion for the arts. She enjoyed sketching, painting, and making cards for others. She was a talented oboe player and was an active member of the Friends of the Symphony in Fort Collins. Alison loved performance art and literature and could recite selected poems at will. She is a beautiful soul. Her family and friends will miss her dearly.
Alison leaves behind her husband of 54 years, David, as well as her daughter, Sutinah L. Dempsey and her husband Larry “Richard” Dempsey of Windsor, Colorado. She is also survived by her brother, Peter F. Jones and wife Tandy Jones of Evergreen, Colorado. Alison was preceded in death by her brother David and by her parents, Betty-Anne and J. Franklin Jones.
