Earl Harold Seyfert, 78, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2024, at Poudre Valley Hospital and was blessed to have all his loving children with him during his final hours. Earl was born November 19, 1946 in Nashville, Kansas.
His family moved to Humboldt, Kansas in 1957 where he graduated from Humboldt High school as Salutatorian in 1964. Earl was not only a National Merit Scholarship finalist his senior year but was also highly recruited for basketball, ultimately accepting a scholarship from Hall of Fame coach, Tex Winter, at Kansas State University. Earl had a distinguished college career starting as a forward for three years and leading his team to win the Big 8 Conference Championship in 1968. He also received the honor of 1968 Academic All-American for NCAA Division 1 Men’s Basketball. After college, Earl was drafted to the NBA by the Philadelphia 76ers, however, as a result of the U.S. Army’s Vietnam War draft lottery, Earl was picked to be on the U.S. Army basketball team where he travelled internationally for two years. After his U.S. Army service, he continued to play basketball professionally internationally, primarily for a team in the Philippines for two years.
Upon Earl’s return to the U.S. in 1972, he settled in San Jose, California where he achieved his MBA from Santa Clara University. Earl married Kerry Rae Rosenberg on May 29, 1976 and they had three children, Kelly, Heather and John. In 1980, Earl and Kerry moved to Eagar, Arizona where Earl pursued a career in Accounting. The family then moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1985 where Earl became the owner of the Maestas Glass Company. He retired while in Albuquerque and subsequently moved to Fort Collins, Colorado in 2019 to be close to his family and enjoy time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his children, Kelly Meyer and husband Jason, Heather Seyfert, and John Seyfert and wife Carly; grandchildren, Gretchen, Edith, and Frances Meyer, and Henry and Isabelle Seyfert. Also survived by siblings Dean Seyfert, Lynn Seyfert, Elvira Durkin, and Evelyn Koeltzow and their families.
Preceding Earl in death were his parents, Herman and Klara Seyfert, his brother, Don Seyfert, and sister, Dolores Davis.
Almost sixty members of the extended Seyfert family will gather in Michigan at their biennial family reunion for a very fond remembrance of Earl in July 2025.
