Howard was born on July 1, 1947, in Connersville, Indiana to Kenneth and Joyce Hurst. Howard grew up in and around the Hagerstown, Indiana area and graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1965. After serving his country in the Army, Howard married his high school sweetheart, Linda Isaacs in 1968 and they welcomed a son, Scott Allen in 1969 and a daughter, Loralee “Lori” in 1971. It was Lori’s privilege to be able to care for her father in her home for the last few weeks of his life. With the help and support from their church family, he spent this time eating special request meals and being loved on by his family.
Howard lived in Frisco Lakes Community with his Fiancée/Domestic partner, Nancy Palazzolo. He could always be found helping others and took pride in his ability as a skilled handyman. Even neighbors would wait for months to have Howard and his crew of Gary and Tyler to complete projects.
Howard’s “first” career was with GTE where he worked from the early 1970’s to the late 1990’s. He spent over a dozen years working in Indiana at Rushville, Ft. Wayne, and Connersville. In 1983 Howard was recognized as one of the inventors of M-COR, a Mechanized Central Office Routiner for GTE. This invention saved his company time, helped streamline troubleshooting efforts, and opened the door for his move to Texas. In 1984 he was transferred to San Angelo, TX as the General Office, Switching Manger. Then in 1989 he was transferred to Dallas as several jobs in San Angelo were reassigned to DFW. Next Howard was assigned as Special Project Manager of the GTE/Venezuela project: he moved to Venezuela until he completed the project in the late 1990’s and he retired from GTE shortly after.
Howard had many hobbies throughout the years, including riding motorcycles, flying airplanes, RV camping, running marathons, drawing, and spending time with his and Nancy’s grandchildren. He also enjoyed working on cars and flying remote control airplanes with his son, Scott. Howard rarely said no to his three beloved granddaughters, Baylee, Kyndal, and Brooklyn! He thought of Nancy’s grandchildren as his own and loved Charlie, Johnny, Joey, and Violet very much. He always had a place on his lap for a little one and always made time to go hear his granddaughters sing. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. Nancy and Howard enjoyed going to Dallas Summer Musicals with friends and family including his “bonus daughters” Mikayla and Caitlin and Nancy’s in-laws Gary and Deb Marquis. His favorite part may have been the buffet!
Howard is survived by his son Scott Hurst (Susan), step grandkids Kim and Jonathon; his daughter Lori Callender (John), granddaughter’s Baylee, Kyndal, Brooklyn, and step granddaughter Chloe’ Callender; his beloved Fiancée Nancy and her daughters Mikayla and Caitlin (Chris) their four children: Charlie, Johnny, Joey, and Violet. His life-long friend and sister-in-law, Cheryl Hurst of Branson, MO and many dearly loved nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life memorial service for Howard will be held Thursday, March 23, 2023 at 5:00 PM at Stonebriar Funeral Home, 10375 Preston Rd., Frisco, Texas 75034.
