Donald Earl Dailey was born to Guy and Dorothy Cox, in Indianapolis on July 23, 1935. He was fond of telling people that he was born the same year as Alcoholics Anonymous was established, canned beer was first sold in the US, Social Security Act was passed, the UAW union was founded, the first Chevy Suburban was produced, and Elvis Presley was born. Don went on to live a full life of 82 years. He passed away peacefully in his Prosper home on May 20, 2018.
During his journey through this world, Don circumnavigated the globe two and a half times, visited 43 foreign countries, fought in two wars (Korea and Vietnam), was shot, cut, had open heart surgery, had a pacemaker implanted, grew to be blind in one eye and was hard of hearing in his later years. Don is a veteran of the Navy and was accepted into the Naval Academy before he met and married the love of his life, Dorothy Joanne Monday and had a family – Michael, Marshall Steven, and Donna.
In addition to being an electrician at General Motors for 31 years, Don was a proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous and recently celebrated 38 years of continuous sobriety. In that fellowship, Don inspired others with his story of learning to forgive and be forgiven.
Don was blessed to be married to Joanne for 55 years before she passed in October of 2011.
Don is also preceded in death by his son Michael and several beloved pets – Sybil, Simon, Fritz and Hobbs.
