David was known to many people by different things. A loving husband to Sue; a great dad to D’Ann and Al; a wonderful Poppa to Jordan, Sydney, Ty, Reagan, and JJ; a memorable friend; and an unforgettable teacher to many many students.
To our family, he was the amazing Patriarch. One that some would say the lead character of our family. He had the most entertaining stories (that we were lucky enough to hear over and over), the best hugs, and was always around when you needed him. He made sure that we were reminded every day how much he loved us. Not a day went by that he didn’t tell everyone that. He was his grandchildren’s biggest fans. You knew you would always see him at their games with bull bells in hand!
To his friends, he was the best storyteller and confidant. You know you could always count on David to help. Everyone knew they could call him up and he would be right there.
To his students, he was known as Mr. Watson. He brought his classroom alive and reminded all students that they were cared about and loved. He taught students how to build bow and arrows, make cattail candles, and even how to shoot muskets with wax bullets. He was definitely one of the greatest History Teachers around!
From the stories to the metal detector searches to the Mesquite Rodeo trips to the cow/bull bells at any and all games, David was the most interesting and lively person. We were all truly blessed to have him in our lives. David loved Texas, he loved his friends and his students, and he loved his family. We truly thank God that we had the time we did with him and he will be tremendously missed.
David is preceded in death by his father and mother, Robert and Edith Watson and his brother Bob Watson.
David is survived by his wonderful wife of 54 (almost 55 years), Sue. His children, D’Ann Watson Kleinman and Allen Watson. His grandchildren, Jordan Burkey, Sydney Kleinman, Ty Watson, and Reagan Kleinman. His great grandchild, JJ Cox. His sister, Jill Watson Van Natta. David is also survived by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, students of all ages, and great friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to the “Remember the Alamo” Foundation.
