wife of 39 years, Patty E. Sanders. His life and legacy was long and full. His new life in Heaven will surpass even his imagination.
The Sanders family moved from Idaho to Alaska; the last frontier, where as a young man, Clare, along with his Dad, built their log home near Anchorage. During these years, he became smart and capable; delivering newspapers over frozen lakes while dodging elk. Later the family returned to Idaho where Clare would attend college to study architecture. After two years, Clare dropped out of studies to pursue a drag racing career. The highlight of his racing career was in 1969 (NHRA FC) Winternationals. A successful racing career does not happen without partners and their support.Clare was recognized by his phenomenal racing career in 1992 when he was inducted into the National Hot Rod Magazine Hall of Fame.
Beyond his successful and gratifying racing career, Clare walked away from the drag strip to form a 30 year career with Snap-On Tools, from working in sales as a dealer to Regional Manager in Europe. His retirement years included family and friends, enjoying golf, traveling with Patty, and keeping up with racing by building websites for racing enthusiasts. Known by some racing fans as “Jungle Clare” but more recently as Dad and Grandpa; and Brother from his church fellowship.
Clare was preceded in death by his parents; father, Sheldon Clyde Sanders, and mother, Violet Cajia Fleiger; and his sisters, Carole Sali and Julee Goulet. Clare is survived by his wife, Patty and daughter, Patricia (Russell); grandchildren Alex, Emma, and Nathan. In addition, Clare is survived by his nieces, Charla (Michael), Twila (Larry), and Christa (Russ); grand-nieces Ashley, Shaun, Cassia, and nephew Anthony (Naomi); grand-nephews Tony, Cristina and Wakiyan.
