Catherine (Cathy) Irene McFarland passed from this life on to her eternal home on March 1, 2017 in San Antonio, Texas with her family at her bedside. She was born on June 11, 1956 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to her parents, Jimmie J. Wood and Mildred Irene Henson Wood. Cathy was the eldest of three siblings sharing her childhood with her brother, Jimmie Mack Wood and sister, Nancy Madeline Wood Lewis. She grew up in Del City and Mead Oklahoma as well as Lake Texoma, Texas.
Cathy (also known as “Cat”) will always be remembered as one of the most loving, sweetest and generous person one could ever know. She loved being around family and friends especially around the holidays. Cathy was known as a person who could fix any problem and was always willing to help anyone for any situation, at any time, day or night.
Cathy attended Silo High School in Mead, OK and went into the graphic design and advertising field where she flourished for over 20 years. She was proud of her faith and being a member of the Episcopal Church.
Cathy married her sweetheart, Donald McFarland on June 28, 1974 in Durant, OK and were together as one for over 42 years. From that wonderful union came their three children, Donnie, Heather and Jennifer along with seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
When asked where her favorite places to be were, Cathy would always respond that Lake Texoma, Crested Butte, CO and Manitou Springs, Co would be top of her wish list. She was well known for her two favorite sayings, particularly towards her grandchildren, which were “I love you to the moon and back” and “a Bushel and a Peck”.
Family and friends recall Cathy’s love for the color red, her burning desire to attend every estate and garage sale possible. She enjoyed collecting pottery, especially Van Briggle. Cathy loved shopping for antiques. Cathy was the biggest Neil Diamond fan and she loved the Beatles. She really enjoyed watching the home fixer up television shows to get ideas for the various projects for her sweet husband to do.
Cathy was preceded in death by her father, Jimmie J. Wood; her brother, Jimmie Mack Wood; her grandmother, Latha Dailey; her grandfather, Mack Henson; her grandmother, Madelyon Townsend Henson; her father-in-law, John McFarland; her mother-in-law, Leatrice Moody McFarland; her great-aunt and uncle Beatrice and Harvey Brazil; and her great-aunt and uncle, Alma and Linus Bailey.
Her legacy will live on through her beloved husband, Donald L. McFarland of San Antonio, TX; her mother, Mildred I. Wood of Pottsboro, TX ;her son, Donnie McFarland of San Antonio, TX; her daughter, Heather Riedlecker and husband, Chris of San Antonio, TX; her daughter, Jennifer Flores and her husband, James of San Antonio, TX; and her sister, Nancy Lewis and her husband Ricky of Pottsboro, TX. Cathy’s pride and joy will always be her grandchildren: Christina Rubio and her husband Brandon, Donnovan McFarland, Emily McFarland, Jack McFarland, Christopher Riedlecker, Nikolaus Riedlecker, Ella Flores and great-granddaughters, Layla and Lexi Rubio. Her memory will always be carried by her niece Jamie Jones and her husband, Brian; her nephews Jimmie Don Wood, Jimmie Eugene Wood, and Jeremy Lewis and his wife, Christina. Cathy’s legacy is carried on through her great-nephew Sawyer Jones and great-nieces Maddox Jones and Alyssa and Ayzlee Lewis as well as countless family members and friends and her much loved dogs, Yoga, Bella, Sadie and Maggie.
Cathy was loved while she was here with us on earth, and will continue to be love through time and all eternity.
