Bob graduated from Cal Poly in 1953, majoring in Ornamental Horticulture. He worked for the City of Fresno for 37 years and retired in 1990 as the Parks Manager.
Bob was involved in numerous projects during his career with the City of Fresno, including the planning and construction of the Fulton Mall, landscaping of Storyland, the development of Woodward Park, and the Japanese Gardens. Bob Belcher Park was named in his honor after his many years of service to the City of Fresno.
After retirement, Bob farmed 120 acres in Fowler. In the past, he was actively involved in many community organizations. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Fresno and served on the Rotary Playland Storyland Board, the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army, and the Chamber of Commerce Landscape Coalition Committee. He was a member of the Shinzen Garden Society, Tree Fresno, San Joaquin River Parkway Trust, CSUF Friends of the Arboretum, the Padrino's at Valley Children's Hospital, and the Sun Maid Raisin Grower's Best Manage- ment Practices Committee.
Bob loved spending time with his family and friends, gardening, and photography. He traveled around the world to numerous countries and accomplished his goal of traveling to all 50 states. He had a passion for sports and loved the San Francisco Giants, 49ers, and Golden State Warriors.
He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty years, Tootsie; and his daughter, Susan Pistacchio.
Bob is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Lindsey and Joe Miller; his grandchildren, Brooke and Will; his sister and brother-in-law, Ann and James Duvall; his best friend and companion, June Riechel; and his son-in-law, David Pistacchio.
Visitation will be held at Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns & Blair Funeral Home on Sunday, October 5, 2014, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
A Funeral Service will be held at Bob's church, Friend's Community Church on Monday, October 6, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Belmont Memorial Park.
Remembrances may be made to the Salvation Army.
