Tomoye Kitano was born in Fresno, CA, on June 13, 1918, to Tomojiro and Isami Tachino. She graduated from Fresno High School in 1935, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Fresno State in 1939. Tomoye married Joe Kitano on March 2, 1941. She and Joe were sent to an internment camp in Jerome, then Rohwer, AR, the following year. They were married for 59 years before Joe passed away in May of 2000.
Tomoye worked for the California State Department of Equalization for 14 years, and retired in 1978. She passed away in her sleep on Sunday, March 8, 2015.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Tomoye is survived by her daughters, Joanne Wong and her husband Gene, and Linda Tsutsui and her husband Hideo; her granddaughters, Julie Wong, and Amy Micucci and her husband John; great-grandsons, Maxwell and Mason Micucci. She is also survived by her brother, Kazuo Tachino.
Tomoye's family would like to express its gratitude to Garden Terrace Assisted Living Home, for the loving care she was given; and Optimal Hospice, who comforted her during her final days.
Visitation will be held at Lisle Funeral Home on Friday, March 13, 2015, from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
A Funeral Service will be held at the Fresno Buddhist Church Dha rma Center, 2690 E. Alluvial Ave., Fresno, CA 93720, on Saturday, March 14, 2015, at 10:00 a.m.
