"Mel" was born on June 17, 1925 in Belmont, California to Grafton B and Alice E
Phillips. Mel spent most of early his life in Fresno. He graduated from Fresno High
School in 1943.
He served in World War II as a Sergeant in the Amy Air Force from 1943 to 1945.
After discharge he attended Fresno State College, graduating in 1950.
Mel married his high school girlfriend, Jonnie Murry, in 1943.
They moved to Firebaugh in 1950, where he was employed by Producers Cotton Oil,
returning to live in Fresno in 1966.
Mel is survived by his wife, Jonnie Phillips, of 67 years; son, Patrick Phillips
and his wife Nida of Plano, Tx.; daughter, Mary Milton and her husband Chris of Fresno.
Grandchildren, Cindy Borunda and her husband Joaquin, Tina Belo and
her husband Jeff, from Fresno; and Gary Miner and his wife Karen,
Steven Phillips and his wife Denise, Jennifer Davis and her husband Joseph,
Kelly Elbert and her husband Kevin all in Dallas Texas area. Great-grandchildren,
Trevor, Christian, and Bryson Elbert, Darian, Lainey, and Drew Davis,
Noelle and Mathew Miner all of Texas, Demetri and Dominic Belo, Chloe,
Alex, Samuel, and Grace Borunda all of Fresno.
His wisdom, insight and sense of humor will be missed by all.
A Graveside Service will be held at Belmont Memorial Park, Fresno, Ca.,
on Saturday, June 15, 2013, at 10:30 a.m.
